Em Xangai, China, teve lugar o XVII Congresso Mundial da maior Sociedade Internacional de Ortopedia. O médico do Centro Hospitalar da Póvoa de Varzim/Vila do Conde, Hélder Pereira, recebeu o Prémio Jan Gillquist Scientific Award pelo 2º melhor trabalho de investigação, entre os muitos milhares submetidos de todo o planeta.

Esta distinção da ISAKOS é uma das mais importantes da Ortopedia e Traumatologia Desportiva Portuguesa no plano mundial.

Hélder Pereira referiu que “o mais importante é que contamos com estes resultados para melhorar o tratamento dos nossos doentes: reconhecer os que mais precisam de cirurgia e a melhor forma de a realizarmos. A partir do momento em que apresentamos e partilhamos os resultados temos expectativa que estes poderão contribuir para muitos mais clínicos em todo o Mundo poderem melhorar o tratamento dos seus doentes”.

O médico enalteceu ainda o trabalho de “excelência” de toda uma equipa com elementos de vários cantos do mundo e o apoio que sempre tem tido do Serviço de Ortopedia do Centro Hospitalar e do Grupo de Investigação 3 Bs da Universidade do Minho.
